I forgot to mention something that, again, might or might not be
relevant: the message about the cryptsetup being complete came to be
displayed *after* the dm-* messages (which means, quite some time after
the first of those messages), which is surprising given that the LVs are
stored on the LUKS crypt.  I would have expected the LVM stuff not to
start activating before its underlying block device (the LUKS crypt in
this case) is complete.
