Hi!
I understand how it is important to switch to the new mediawiki.
However, even if maintream authors strongly recommend the upgrade, they 
do not provide a correct way of doing it.
In [1], the way described is with php-cli and it would be a shame to 
install php cli only for this.
And even after that it still needs to do manual modifications and to 
read - gosh! - a UPGRADE file :)

Then, I know that all our users will fill bug repport if this is not 
this or that way. Hence we need to take time to look on it an find a 
correct upgrading path..

If you like to try it and give us any feedback, it would surely speed 
the dev.
