[Pkg-mediawiki-devel] Where we are and where we go

Coin,

mediawiki 1.4.9-3 was just uploaded a few minutes ago after a waiting
for last bugs to be fixed. It is gonna be locked in a NEW queue some
days and we should then take a breath, and reorganize our tools before
doing anything else.

First important step is to reorganize our repository. GNU Arch is meant
for distributed work and thus having private branches on Debian machines
is of no interest. So i'm to create the mainline, reflecting patches
accepted by the team, and private experimental branches would then be
kept at one's home. Debian changelog would then reflect history and
'unreleased' distribution would mean work in progress (switching to
'unstable' just before upload). Mainline first revision would then start
From this upload, so as to be able to remove old private
branches. Related work on phptal & co would have their mainline there
too.

Second step is to review the existing non-official packages of phptal &
co and prepare an upload soon.

Third step is to work on user installations, which is related to
multisite capability. A user with no special rights should be able to
install a user-configured mediawiki mostly (or totaly ?) without admin
intervention. This is not a trivial problem. More on this later.

Related to third step but important for overall packaging quality, is
the need for a webapp policy. There is probably Debian people already
working on it, so we should find them, review their work, contribute and
use it in mediawiki as well.

Later we could work on PHP5 support (don't really know if mediawiki
support it well, but phptal for PHP5 is a complete rewrite and should be
packaged separately).

Nice todolist :-)
