[Pkg-mediawiki-devel] math rendering

hi

i installed mediawiki1.5 and mediawiki1.5-math on my debian etch/sid
box. the wiki seems to be fine, however math rendering does not work. as
instructed in the README.Debian i set $wgUseTex to true, which did
change nothing. i noticed that several directories referenced in the
LocalSettings.php file do not exist
($wgUploadPath=/var/lib/mediawiki1.5/images,$wgUploadPath/math,$wgUploadPath/tmp). 

creating them and changing ownership to www-data did not help either though.
the apache2 log gave no hints.

is there anything i'm missing? any known things people have problems with?
