Package: mediawiki1.7
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Sunday, March 25, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for mediawiki1.7.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading mediawiki1.7 with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, when I will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
Monday, April 23, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

On Tuesday, April 24, 2007, I will contact you again and will send a final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

+ MediaWiki is being upgraded from version 1.5.
  .
- This package will install its files in a new location:
- /var/lib/mediawiki1.7
- Then you need to upgrade your old mediawiki1.5.
+ The new package version uses /var/lib/mediawiki1.7 for the wiki
+ database. The old database files need to be moved before
+ performing the upgrade.
  .
- This package provides a script to do this automatically.
- The script will make a backup of your database, upgrade it, and
- prepare a new configuration file for your new mediawiki. You
- will still be able to use this script later, by calling, as root,
- /usr/share/mediawiki1.7/debian-scripts/upgrade-mediawiki1.5
+ This operation can be done automatically: the database will be
+ backed up, upgraded, and a new configuration file will be prepared
+ for the new version. The operation can be performed now. Alternatively,

- If you don't know any account, the root user is sufficient.
+ When in doubt, the MySQL root account can be used.

 _Description: Configuration files fixed
- There was a bug in previous packages that forced configuration files
- to be located in /var/lib/mediawiki1.7.
+ A previous bug in the mediawiki package forced configuration files to be
+ stored in /var/lib/mediawiki1.7.
  .
- This is now solved, and your configuration files can now be found at
- /etc/mediawiki1.7. A backup has been made in case this failed, located
- in /etc/mediawiki1.7 too.
+ These files have been moved back to /etc/mediawiki1.7 and a backup
+ was also made in that directory.
