I could really do with some help if you do have time. For reasons I'm not
in a position to discuss yet my time has become extremely constrained.

The bug should be straightforward: relocating the files to your suggested
directory is easy enough, but there will almost certainly need to be
postinst handling to hold dpkg's hand WRT symlinks and directories. I have
not had chance to investigate further than this yet.
