Sure, as long as the “standard Debian way” dpkg-buildpackage -S -I -i
will continue to work, no problem.

Right. We can actually just pull the entire MW git into an upstream
branch, like David Bremner talked about at DebČevapiConf.

Actually, I’d rather have separate git repos for MW-core, MW-extensions
etc. (it’s also the git way to separate them).

That check_versions.pl basically downloads them. I find it
complicated, but it’s what we inherited from Romain. I could
probably come up with something more simple, especially when
considering most extensions are in a git repo of their own,
but don’t want to throw away that stuff unless Romain decides
to let it go.
