Bug#371818: libgl1-mesa-dev: can't compile any program against libGL.so

Package: libgl1-mesa-dev
Version: 6.4.2-1
Severity: normal

I can't link any application against libGL.so (including an empty one).
I keep getting the error:

/usr/bin/ld: BFD 2.16.91 20060413 Debian GNU/Linux assertion fail
.../../bfd/elflink.c:6265
/usr/bin/ld: a.out: hidden symbol `__fini_array_end' in a.out is
referenced by DSO
/usr/bin/ld: final link failed: Nonrepresentable section on output
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

Downgrading to binutils in stable (which conflicts with gcc/g++ and
gives other warnings so isn't a good option), solves this problem.

I tried this with g++ and gcc version 3.4 4.0 and 4.1
This happens also with an empty file doing:

test.c:
--------------------
int main() {
    return 0;
}

and
gcc -lGL test.c
