Not really weird at all; when you made the X r128 driver believe there
was more video RAM than there actually is, it thought there was enough
to store textures.

No need, really, this is a well known and understood problem. Does it
still happen with current libgl1-mesa-dri in sid? I fixed this upstream
a while ago, but maybe it was after the current snapshot.
