It's because Google Earth uses functionality that the r300 driver can't
accelerate yet, so it has to fall back to software rendering. Enabling
the 'Disable Low-impact fallback' option under the 'Performance' tab in
driconf should give better performance at the cost of slightly
non-conformant rendering.
