Comments:
- what exactly are the advantages?
- which other arches? Debian autobuilders picked up the source already
while I cannot see any packages for !x86 && !powerpc from Ximian
- the Ximian Build System is not FHS compliant (extensive usage of
/usr/lib for non-native code)
- I think the Debian developers won't accept packages built externaly,
they must be buildable on our systems. And then the legality situation=
is not that easy.
AFACIS the Ximian Build System does not build mcs and assemblies at
all, it simply puts GPLed code from the mono tarball into RPMs
without having source for it (the source is separated).
- the RPMs they create are built/installed on a very "generic" way and
not compatible with the Debian system on many places: different
package names, different versions, different level of integration
(binfmt support? update-alternatives support? automatic dependency
generation for other packages?)
In short: if you wish to get DEBs faster, take RPMs and convert them
with alien. (Not tested yet but I think this should work since Ximian
provides a long dependency chain).
