backport patches for RC 1.8.1.5 release

Note:
patch for 199088 ... makes seamonkey fail to build.

mozilla hasn't backported this yet and it is more or less just a
theoretical issue for now  ... so removing should be safe. I will
try to push an updated patch asap (hope to do this tomorrow).
