Of course, safe-mode doesn't make the slightest difference.

I am aware that this could be anything - the site itself (but then I'd
expect to find similar complaints, which I don't), my kernel, my
router or my ISP.  But unfortunately web technology left me in the
dust with AJAX, so I have no clue how to diagnose this.
