Bug#565574: iceweasel: Corrupt application colors under 8bit xserver & KDE

I've discovered that iceweasel corrupts all of its display colors when 
running under KDE and an 8bit color xserver. It does this for any page, 
including the about: page.  The web page renders incorrectly, as does 
the application itself.  For example, the menu bar is gray, but the menu 
text is purple and sits on green rectangles, making it unreadable.  Reds 
in web content become cyan.  If I shift focus away from iceweasel by 
clicking on another application window, the color of the web content 
corrects itself, and the application colors shift but remain incorrect.  
This happens in KDE, but does not happen under TWM: iceweasel functions 
correctly under TWM. Other applications display properly in KDE, 
including OpenOffice.org.

I discovered this because my video card failed, and has been temporarily 
replaced with a circa 1995 trident PCI model.  These problems did not 
exist under 24bit color on my AGP radeon card.

I run debian stable, and fully updated the system prior to this report.
