what let you make this conclusion? The current ESR version is 24.7.0 in
stable-security so I wouldn't call this dead.

If we fixed up some problems for the new ESR version 31.0 there will be
of course uploads to stable-security.
As Thunderbird hasn't got many dramatically changes between version 24
and 31 we are happy to be not to far behind the current releases of Mozilla.

We are happy for any help in fixing build issues or tracking down the
bug count.
