As I failed to find a way to create an account without starting a new
thread, here's my answer by mail:
I don't know what this person's setup is, but it's definitely not a
straight Debian stable. He says "The only versions of Firefox in the
Debian stable repository are esr 17.0.11 and esr 24.4.0.". Except:
- There is no Firefox in Debian stable, there is Iceweasel.
- The "only" versions of Iceweasel in the Debian stable repository are
24.4.0esr for stable-updates and 24.7.0esr for stable-security.
- The auto-update check that's in Firefox is disabled in Iceweasel, so
there shouldn't be an in-application notification to update.
Cheers,
Mike
