Backports for IceDove may not be working.

Are you installing the Lightning extension from the debian repositories?
 in debian, the unbranded version is called iceowl-extension.

So you want to make sure that both packages have the same version
numbers, which you can check with:

 dpkg -l icedove iceowl-extension

please ensure that any other calendaring extension is uninstalled (e.g.
in the user's icedove profile).

if you're still having problems with the calendaring extension,
reporting a bug via the debian BTS is the best next step.
