Iceweasel and Gecko-Mediaplayer do not play plain mp3 audio file and html5-embedded mp4 video file

Hello

i have a problem with iceweasel 31.2.0 and gecko-mediaplayer
1.0.6 which I especially installed as it shall allow playing
html5-embedded media content of the mp3 and mp4 format.

But this browser-plugin-combination does not.

I have two test files: An mp3 audio file and a mp4 video file.
In addition, I wrote an html-file which contains html5 <audio>-
and <video> elements that refer to these two files.

If we do not deal with a bug, maybe there are just changes in
about:config necessary.

My findings:

1) file:///path/to/test.mp3 leads to error message "Video can't
be played because the file is corrupt" which is false. First,
the target is an audio file and second, it is played without
problems, e.g. by gnome-mplayer.

2) file:///path/to/test.mp4 plays the video as expected

3) http://www.hiereth.de/tmp/test.mp3 leads to the same situation
as 1)

4) http://www.hiereth.de/tmp/test.mp4 causes a request, which
external software shall be used for playing the file

5) http://www.hiereth.de/tmp/test-medieninhalte.html gives no
access to the mp3 and mp4 media. The control area for the
mp3 is not shown all. In the area where the control area for the
mp4 - file shall appear, it is claimed that the system is not
able to process a file of this MIME-type. This contradicts 2).

I would appreciate Your support. Please include a cc-copy to my
personal mail addresse as I'm no subscriber of this list.
