Lack of logins.json in iceweasel about:config

Apparently, since Firefox 32, passwords are stored through a logins.json file instead of a signons.sqllite file.
In my Iceweasel v 38 (from Wheezy backports), there is no logins.json file listed in the about:config - just a signons.sqllite file.  However, there is a logins.json file in my .mozilla directory.
Is this correct or should there be a logins.json entry and NOT a signons.sqllite entry in the about:config listing?
