Iceweasel 40.x.x and 41.0.1 Cannot Import HTML Bookmarks

Running Iceweasel in clean Jessie environment (i.e. no backports).

Since upgrading to Iceweasel 40.x.x, I cannot import HTML bookmark
files from Firefox of the same version.

>From within the Show All Bookmarks window, I choose Import Bookmarks
from HTML...

The Import Bookmarks File window shows,  Filter: HTML Files.

I navigate to the directory (folder) where I store my HTML bookmark
files but none of them appear in the window.

I change the Filter to *.* then click on the Location field - the
bookmark HTML files now appear.

I click on the desired bookmark.html to import then click the Open button.

The Import Bookmarks File window disappears and the process dies -
nothing else happens - no bookmarks are imported.

I have no insights as to what may be causing this problem since version 40.x.x.

Any ideas to try?
