Please generally use the more modern tilde "~" instead of dot ".", as it
makes room for later corrected upstream release (e.g. in cases of
licensing problems not in core code but in some contrib folder, where it
makes sense to re-release using exact same upstream version number).

Example:

  1) Upstream release abc version 1.2.3 (containing bad code)
  2) We release abc-123~dfsg (with bad code stripped)
  3) Upstream re-releases version 1.2.3 (without bad code)
  4) We release abc-123

When we release as abc-123.dfsg then we pick a version slot _later_ than
the pristine upstream version, which requires using ugly workarounds or
waiting for later upstream releases.

+++++

That was generally.

I am aware that in this particular case, it is a re-release at our end,
so it does make sense to pick a "later slot" for our version.

But please discourage such use generally, by adding a FIXME comment in
the watch file and other places where the trailing dfsg is added,
encouraging to switch to the better tilde delimiter at next upstream
release.

Hope that makes sense - and that you all agree :-)
