I might be mistaken, but believe that DEB_AUTO_* are some of those few 
CDBS variables left which still require being declared early, i.e. 
before including CDBS snippets..

Or if it works, then at least build-dependency on CDBS needs to be 
tightened to the versions after the cleanup (no, I don't recall when 
that was - ask me at the CDBS list if it isn't obvious from 
close-reading changelog).
