Yup it should.  I'm sure the problem was my not doing it right, and/or my
current n900 setup not being quite stock so that I needed to tweak the
instructions a bit.  (I was following https://wiki.debian.org/MaemoAndSqueeze)
Hm, I think I also had trouble finding the actual packages to install
(not sure why, I see them at http://repository.maemo.org/extras/pool/fremantle/free/u/u-boot/)

I'll re-try.
