Looking at /etc/snmp/snmp.conf it says:

# As the snmp packages come without MIB files due to license reasons,
loading
# of MIBs is disabled by default. If you added the MIBs you can reenable
# loading them by commenting out the following line.
mibs :

From what I understand, this turns of parsing of the MIB files
completely, is that correct? If so, I wonder why libsnmp depends on
libsnmp-base then if the data shipped there is unused by default when
snmp.conf is installed?

Is the real problem maybe that that MIB files shipped in libsnmp-base
are broken (judging from the libsnmp output)?

Mind you, I know basically zero about net-snmp, so apologies if this is
stupid question.

Regards,
Michael
