Version: unavailable; reported 2003-07-28
Severity: important
Package version is:
ii nethack-common 3.4.1-1.2
The directory for saved games is /var/games/nethack/save.
During play, levels saved by the checkpoint option are saved under
/var/games/nethack.
When saving the game, the following error message is displayed: "Could
not open save file...". However, the user has write access to the
directories /var/games/nethack and /var/games/nethack/save, being in the
games group.
When ignoring the message and trying to save again, the game ends as in
a game over. Checkpoint files are left intact.
Workaround #1: Manually copy the checkpoint files and saved games back
to /var/games/nethack/save before saving.
Workaround #2: Save twice to end the game and run recover to rebuild the
save file. In that case, the logfile will still record that the player
was 'tricked'.
