I had some issues with ntpd today (while using it to debug an SNTP
implementation I'm working on for a customer) and tried to use -d to
debug them, and was very unhappy to have to rebuild the package to
enable the debugging code...
Can --disable-debugging be removed from debian/rules?
Note that even with debugging enabled, the debugging code doesn't
actually run unless you specify -d on the command line, so it's
perfectly safe for production.
Furthermore, -d is mentioned in the official NTP documentation (e.g.
http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~mills/ntp/html/quick.html), and its absence
may confuse people who have read those docs, or who have asked for help
on comp.protocols.time.ntp and been told to provide debugging info which
is only available with -d.
