Package: ntp
Version: 1:4.2.6.p2+dfsg-1+b1
Severity: normal

Hello,
in the squeeze version of ntp, the command

  # ntpq -c "rv 0 state"

fails with this error:

  ***A request variable unknown to the server

on a working (lenny) the output is:

  # ntpq -c "rv 0 state"
  assID=0 status=06f4 leap_none, sync_ntp, 15 events, event_peer/strat_chg,
  state=4

Several monitoring scripts uses the above command, and checks for 'state=4' in
order to judge if ntp is working or not (4 is the OK status).

Do you know of any alternative for that? would it worth an entry in NEWS.Debian?

Regards,
Sandro
