Description of problem:

OS : Debian (Squeeze)

kernel version : 3.0.0 

Hardware : x86-64

 

system boot stalls while NTP server is started.   

Squeeze NTP server has problems starting:

 

Starting NTP server: ntpdlockfile creation failed: exceeded maximum
number of

lock attempts

lockfile creation failed: exceeded maximum number of lock attempts

lockfile creation failed: exceeded maximum number of lock attempts

lockfile creation failed: exceeded maximum number of lock attempts

lockfile creation failed: exceeded maximum number of lock attempts

lockfile creation failed: exceeded maximum number of lock attempts

lockfile creation failed: exceeded maximum number of lock attempts

lockfile creation failed: exceeded maximum number of lock attempts

lockfile creation failed: exceeded maximum number of lock attempts

lockfile creation failed: exceeded maximum number of lock attempts
