Yes, you can download a new version:
http://www.nomachine.com/sources/
I see packages with a newer date then the release date. I don't know a
way to get a message when there is a newer version.

I don't think so. What I see is that I can download older versions of
the software, I expect with security-updates for some time. But I cannot
download version 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0, only 1.5, 2.1 and 3.1, so only the
latest version of a major-release.
