I tried to upload new versions of octave2.1 and octave2.9 to unstable. I
applied to both of them the patch proposed by JWE in the help-octave
mailing list to avoid crashes in the octave_value_list destructor (thread
starting at http://www.octave.org/mailing-lists/help-octave/2005/4249).
Only octave2.9 went in, because the ftp installer refused to downgrade
the virtual octave package from 2.9.4-1 to 2.1.72.-2. I decided then
that the virtual octave package should only be generated by the octave2.1
source package. That way, when users do "apt-get install octave" they
get octave2.1, which is the recommended branch.
The bug reports related to this problem are:
http://bugs.debian.org/339430
http://bugs.debian.org/339445
Once Bug#339445 is fixed and all the octave_2.9.4-1_<arch>.deb packages
will be removed from the pool, I will upload a new octave2.1_2.1.72-3 set
of packages.
