What are DOG packages? "apt-cache search dog" does not yield anything.

I was looking at 
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=432420 and to my surprise, I 
cannot reproduce the FTBFS. When I compiled matwrap , it compiles just fine. 
Does anyone else see this problem?
