Your patch is both so small and so useful that I am surprised it generated
no reaction in the mailing list.  I am fully supportive for including the
patch in the octave3.0 package.  However, it is better to wait until the
suitesparse transition is completed.

If we use untarred directories instead of tarballs for the octave-forge
pkgs, then we will have change octave-pkg-dev.  Also, we would better hold
the uploads on, because it will be impossible to upload further releases
with the upstream tarballs changed (but having the same version number) in
the future.

I am afraid that if we go down this road, the uploads of the octave-forge
pkgs will have to wait for one or two weeks more.

No problem, I think I can also cope with the Octave language... :-)
