Indeed, the current version of octave-image in unstable is broken as regards
the rendering of colors in imshow.  This will be fixed when octave3.2 will
be released and octave-image upgraded.  

I am tagging this bug report with wontfix for now because it is out of
reach for us to fix the problem by patching the sources.  Even upstream
has already adapted the package for Octave 3.1 [1].
