[Pkg-octave-devel] Cruft in packaging

Thomas, havve you been working on the 3.4 packaging? I started looking
at it again today, and there's so much cruft there that I think we can
banish to VCS history, e.g. pertaining to building two parallel
versions of Octave. Even debian/rules seems like it could be
considerably simplified to me.
Have you started doing any of this work?
Regarding your question from some time ago, I started looking into
updating the webpage, but it's also so horribly outdated full of svn
advice that I couldn't find almost anything worth salvaging there. I
also couldn't find the source for anything *but* the svn advice. Where
is it?
It seems to me that it's almost less work to start from scratch than
to figure out how much of this old stuff we need to keep.
