I don't mind the feature[1]. I do mind the way it was introduced,
though. So, how would I like to have this handled?
In 3.6, introduce it, with a default to "off". 
In 3.8, change the default to "on". 
In 3.10, remove the old code and keep only broadcasting[2].

[1] I don't use Octave currently, so the feature is certainly not
hindering me :)
[2] Yeah, some people are going to hate me for this, but the alternative
will be that every simple script that might want to use broadcasting has
to check for its availability, forever.
