I sort of agree with Sébastien and would wait until the native GUI 
becomes stable and the default before removing qtoctave.

In the meantime, we could patch qtoctave to inform the user in the splash 
screen about the deprecation and the future removal of qtoctave from 
Debian.  I prepared a patch for this in Git, on a branch called 
"deprecation".  Please, try it and tell me what yu think.
