Thanks for the suggestion.  I am preparing right now a new version of 
the package that will fix this bug [1].

The patch that I introduced is kind of a hack and it would be good if the 
upstream author could cope with the issue in a proper way.  I will 
eventually fill a bug report against the Octave-Forge package nan.
