The goal to upload the octave package to experimental was to get it 
built against gcc 6.  If, indeed as you say, it will be built against 
the gcc in unstable, then the exercise is moot.

At any rate, I tried to build the package inside an experimental chroot, 
against gcc 6 and HDF5 1.10
