[Pkg-pciutils-discuss] 2.2.1-2 hit testing

A quick celebration, please ... we got pciutils into testing before the
deadline for the Etch rc3 installer.

Now, what do we need to do for the next upload? I'd like to see:

1. What's currently in CVS (ie 2.2.4-pre1), plus ...
2. Support for gzipped pci.ids
3. Integration of (a variant of) the RH patch to support the kernel
overriding the raw class. See bug 335665
4. Separation of pci.ids into its own package. Andreas Barth supports
   this (http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-pciutils-discuss/2006-June/000032.html)

Anyone else have ambitions for the next upload?

I'm a little hesitant to include 2 and 3, since I haven't heard back
from Martin yet whether he considers them acceptable ideas, and backing
them out will need a carefully thought out transition.

In any case, adding them touches quite a few files. I'm tempted to
switch to a debian/patches/ directory approach to handling them -- does
anyone have a preferred helper system for this? I haven't kept up with
these kinds of practices within Debian -- is cdbs the tool of choice
these days?

I'd also like to hear opinions on the version number to use. I'm
tempted to call it 2.2.3-1 even though it's really 2.2.4-pre1, just due
to how poorly debian handles -pre versions.

Thanks
