It really shouldn't be so -- I guess that Matthew converged to a different
patch set from my development version.
I will release new upstream package during this weekend, which should help
to sort these things out.

Well, for example on Linux the right requirement is not being root, but
having the CAP_SYS_ADMIN capability, so the old message was in some cases
wrong. I preferred to say just "access denied" and explain it in the man
page.
