As I said many times before, our task is not to package every possible
module which exists in PHP world (not even every module in base
package).  Any Debian Developer can maintain or sponsor PHP modules.

Feel free to do what you think is appropriate for your situation and
needs.  There are examples of modules (like php-imap, php-mcrypt and
others) maintained out of php tree and compiled for both php4 and php5.
