i'm not sure where you're getting 5.2.0-10 from, if you're using etch you 
should be seeing only 5.2.0-8+etch10 or perhaps 5.2.0-8+etch11~p1 (which was 
recently migrated to etch from etch-proposed-updates.  however, i suspect 
that:

> > >   APT prefers stable
> > >   APT policy: (500, 'stable')

may have something to do with it.  please provide the following information:

- contents of /etc/apt/sources.list
- output of apt-cache policy php5-xmlrpc
- output of apt-cache policy php5-common
