The FHS specifies that /usr should be read-only, so /var is more
appropriate. Because it's just cached data (it will be automatically
regenerated if it would be completely lost), /var/cache/<webapp> is more
appropriate.

I advise you to read the FHS specification which is in general quite clear
on this topic.
