Hi Raphael,

well, the 5.3.1-4 has:

  * Add missing PEAR directory (Closes: #542483)

which was the fix and also the root of the problem in php5 package,
but the rest has to be fixed in the PEAR packages (like php-net-snmp).

If you have some more specific fix in the mind, feel free to fix it.
But my opinion is that if you prepare some complicated preinst script
it will possibly broke more things than just leaving this as is and
fix packages depending on php-pear.
