Hi everyone,

https://evolvis.org/plugins/scmgit/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=shellsnippets/hello-php-world.git
holds a packaging example for a simple Apache/PHP/PostgreSQL
application using dbconfig-common, targetting multiple releases
and PHP5-compatible code at this time.

I’ve been creating and using this for a process in which such
an application is developed with Debian in mind, i.e. as a Debian
(possibly native) package, with runninng on Debian at the user’s
site.

I would like to ask for people to review it and, if possible,
add stuff like other webservers or database(-like) engines,
if they want (by emailing the patches to me, ideally).

Furthermore, I’d like to ask if you consider this worthy to
be uploaded to Debian itself in a “modernised” form, e.g. not
taking older Apache or PHP versions or Debian releases in mind
(since we target testing/sid and, at best, stable-backports, for
those normally). If so, I would also invite patches (or do it
myself as a first step) and upload it myself. (In this case, do
you think it worthwhile to keep a flavour running on the older
releases around for people needing to deal with oldoldstable (or
worse) at work? This is very much a real-life scenario…)

Interaction welcome (especially as this is a project I do on
paid time for my employer¹).

Notable side developments: Dominik “Natureshadow” George has
taken it as basis for a Apache+Python+PostgreSQL application
developed in the same vain (which I think my employer is also
publishing as Open Source or rather will be once usable) and
intimated he’d not be averse to maintain a hello-python-world
fork, which could benefit from shared work e.g. on the webserver
and database front.

Thanks,
//mirabilos
