 And offering additional documentation in the sense of README.Debian (or
even NEWS.Debian?) to ease the path. I know, stating the obvious. ;)

 Sounds extremely reasonable and useful to me. Additionally getting in
contact with the release team to have it in the release notes will be
also something that should be done.
