Nod. I thought about building in place and calling "make install"
earlier, but this method should work as well. (The problem could be to
determine what to actually copy - at least debian/ should be
excluded.)

Ah, that's a problem then, sure.

Is PG_VERSION_NUM the only thing taken from that file? If you are
building for several PG versions, can't you just "gcc -D" it while
building instead? (Not sure if that's a problem pg_buildext should
solve.)

(Btw, I'll see to change pgapt.debian.net to really provide libpq-dev
packages for every version. They will not be installable at the same
time, though.)
