I am finished with paraview. The packages can be downloaded from here:

it builds on i386, on amd64 and in pbuilder. It is not at all lintian
clean though, we need to move some directories around, but it works
now for me.

So now it's your turn - please integrate the MPI stuff. Is it possible
for you to stick to this version of paraview, or do you need the cvs
version?
This version with the patches I did works perfectly fine in Debian.
