Yes, I think so, unless we introduce some magic like
    ifeq ( $(shell dpkg-vendor --derives-from Ubuntu && echo yes), yes)
to the makefile to pass different configure parameters for Ubuntu
builds.

Gianfranco: Should we do something like that?
