The new version of the SILC Server is now available! The source package
of the software is available from the following sources:
http://silcnet.org/
ftp://ftp.silcnet.org/
Enjoy the new SILC Server 1.1 release. The 1.1 server is based on the new
SILC Toolkit 1.1 released earlier this year. The server contains only few
new features such as HTTP statistics backend and dynamic router
connections. Main new features come from the new Toolkit which include
among others vastly improved packet processing engine which should improve
server performance. The 1.1 server also contains partial support for the
upcoming SILC protocol version 1.3.
Most of the planned features for 1.1 server were dropped and opted to be
included in the upcoming 1.2 server. The 1.2 server will be a complete
rewrite just like SILC Client 1.1 was earlier this year.
A precompiled RPM is also available from the website. The RPM spec file
is also included in the source package so you may build your own RPM
package if wanted.
Summary of Changes
------------------
Here are the higlights of the new features and changes in 1.1.
o Based on the new SILC Toolkit 1.1. See SILC Toolkit 1.1 release notes
for all the changes.
o HTTP server backend. The server includes builtin HTTP server.
Administrator can set up web access to the server's statistics
information. This feature is disabled by default.
o Dynamic router connection. Administrator may set up standalone server
which creates connection to primary router only when needed. This
feature is disabled by default.
o Partial support for upcoming SILC Protocol version 1.3
o Partial support for SILC Public Key version 2.
o Myriad of other fixes and changes.
Installation
------------
The source package is compiled and installed as instructed in the INSTALL
file found from the package. Quick installation:
./configure
make
make install
Known Issues
------------
- Known Issues in SILC Server
- Two or more servers with same IP must not be linked to same network,
even if server ports are different. This is limitation in current
implementation and may cause desync problems in the network.
- Adding or removing listenning interfaces (secondary interfaces in
silcd.conf) does not work in rehash (rehash is kill -HUP <serverPID>).
Changing listenning interfaces requires reboot of the server.
- Router to router connections may not work as expected.
